Today we’re back at the Hilton Hotel. We’ll be seal coating their old asphalt. Right now we’re spraying on a seal coat. It’s a full tar emulsion.

There’s a couple of ways you can apply this…you can put it down by squeegee or spray it on. Most contractors will choose to spray it on since it’s easier and faster.

This old asphalt was in pretty good condition. It’s a pretty good candidate for a seal coat.

Seal coat kinda works in the same way if you painted wood. It protects it and keeps the oils in the asphalt. It will also keep oil from penetrating the asphalt, and chewing it up. It really won’t give you more strength so if you’ve got a week base or a bad asphalt it’s not really going to do anything for you.

We’re going to go ahead and stripe this thing today…we’re going to be putting down a yellow paint. Yellow, you can paint almost immediately after it dries.

If you’re painting a white, you’re going to have to wait at least a day for it to cure. Otherwise the white paint will kind of turn a little bit of an off color.

We’re back at the Hilton hotel; we’re striping the parking lot we just seal coated. This is a yellow, latex traffic paint. That’s a Graco, airless striper.

Today, we’re breaking some concrete using our drop hammer.

Because it’s a Caterpiller 272 Skid Steer, it works pretty fast. We’ve already sawcut this area…now we’re going to break it out and repour it. We have a hydraulic hammer also, but this works so much faster, we don’t even use it for the big stuff. It’s a timing thing; you’ve got to drop it, pick it up and move it as soonas you pick it up…takes a little practice!

In this video we are drilling shafts for bell bottom piers. We are using a skid steer with an auger attachment

We will install steel reinforcement and concrete in the shafts; then pour a concrete slab in this location for a new warehouse.

Piers are positioned under the beams of the slab as they add support to the foundation, especially in poor soil conditions. You always want to pour the concrete the same day as they are drilled. If you wait until the next day, you take a chance the shafts will collapse or fill up with groundwater.
